Writing for the search engines, which is commonly called SEO writing, is a technique used to attract the search engines to it. In other words, by the very way your content is written, it enables you to gain a higher page rank, than you would without it. If you use some of the dubious techniques (black hat) that some engage in, it will tend to cause you nothing but trouble (and a little heartache) in your relationship with Google. Here are some basic ideas to follow for good SEO writing that will enable you to get along fine with both Google and your customers - at the same time.
1. Write For People
One mistake that so many beginners make in their attempt at SEO writing is to try to write their material for the search engines. But search engine optimization writing is not so complex, or mysterious, that it needs to sound like a computer put it together - and just blew it.
One important thing to remember is that Google (and other search engines) exists to bring good content to people. If it continues to make people happy with the results of Google's search engine results pages (SERPA), then people will continue to use it. But, think with me, if every time you searched for something, you were directed to pages of unreadable or unintelligible nonsense - would you continue to use that search engine? Probably not.
This means that the search engines have to be able to distinguish between garbage, and good content - and they are getting better at it. So you will be better off if you try to write for people - like in this article.
2. Choose One Primary Keyword
Search engines do a little better when there is one primary keyword on a page. This means that search engine optimized writing must use that same keyword to your best advantage. Make the content article focus around a single keyword or keyword phrase for best effect. For more targeted marketing, and for a higher return on your investment (ROI), this will reduce more of the superfluous traffic.
3. Select Secondary Keywords
Although it is important to have your focus on one primary keyword, you will want to include some that are very closely related. For instance, if your keyword phrase is cell phone pictures, you may also want to use something like cell phone picture cameras, how to send pictures from your cell phone, sending pictures from computer to cell phone, etc. Notice that each of the secondary keywords are naturally related to the main keyword. Good SEO writing does not need in any way to sound unnatural - unless there is no other way to smoothly use a keyword phrase that you are focusing on.
4. Frequency of Keywords
Writing for Google does not need to be in any way deceptive. Some used to try to make all kinds of invisible words on a page, thinking that the dumb computer does not know any better. That may be true - at first. But again, remember, that Google is a business and they work every day in an effort to return the best results, and to keep people from trying to cheat. Yes, they caught on, and blacklisted some from Google for it.
To get the best results, use your main keyword about 4 to 6% of the time. This boils down to about once in almost every paragraph - if you have an article of about 550-600 words. Be sure to use your keyword phrase in the title of your article. When you are writing for search engine optimization, then it also means that each secondary key phrase must be used one or two times less than that.
Good SEO writing, once again, does not need to be entirely unnatural in order to be effective. Avoid stuffing so many keywords into it that no one can read it. Besides - if you want people to come and stay on your Website - shouldn't you make them want to stay?
