BookPreface
Life is a fascinating but complicated subject. It can be rewarding in many ways, but more often it is very challenging and it sometimes it feels like a constant struggle. Some are more fortunate than others in certain aspects of life, while other poor souls seem to go from disaster to disaster. Like most mathematical situations, the majority of us sit in the middle of the curve, not wealthy and not poor.

How many of you have looked at people who are really successful and wondered why? How many times have you seen people in misery and pain and asked, “Why them?”

Is life just simply a numbers game? Do we have any control over our fortune, health and destiny, or is it all about timing and luck? If you ask the successful people, they will say, “Life is what we make it.” If you ask the less fortunate, they will say, “It is just bad luck.”

As you read this book, you can draw your own conclusions. I will share my experiences and the beliefs that have allowed me to shape my own life, and I will detail how I faced the ultimate challenge: chronic spine disease. My first reaction was, “Why me? How could this terrible thing be happening to me?”

I could have admitted defeat and wallowed in self-pity, or I could have done something about it. Luckily for me, I was a firm believer in managing my own destiny, and I practiced positive thinking on a regular basis.
