  MARK LEWIN

Writer PhotoMark Lewin is a freelance writer working out of Oxfordshire in England, where he lives with his wife Amanda and his sons Ben, Samuel and Malachy and daughter Marie.

Having worked in a succession of rather bizarre and totally unrelated jobs in his early twenties (brainwave technician, professional yo-yo player, barristers' clerk and computer programmer among them) Mark settled into a career as a freelance writer, technical author and copywriter, where he finally appears to have found his niche.

When he's not sat at the keyboard or changing nappies, he can often be found at the bottom of some flooded quarry somewhere, indulging his other passion: scuba diving.

MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
  • I have had hundreds of pieces published in various trade and general magazines all over the USA, Europe and UK.
  • My first book, "Access 2003 In Easy Steps" will be published by Computer Step in April 2004.
  • I'm a regular writer for Agora Publication's "Windows Advisor" series.
  • I specialise in business and technical writing and copywriting -- copy that shifts products and sells services.

Access 2003 In Easy Steps is a book for the complete novice. It recognizes that in order to become a competent Access user one needs to have a full understanding of the basics: Databases, Tables, Queries, Forms and Reports, before hoping to harness some of its more powerful features. Rather than just being a reference, a glorified version of the online help already packaged with the product, Access 2003 In Easy Steps develops the reader's understanding by stressing the practical advantages of learning each concept. Each is amply demonstrated using the Northwind sample database that comes with Access 2003.

Unlike other books on the market it doesn't stop there. It outlines some of the more complex and powerful features of Access 2003 and paves the way for further reading and experimentation. Importantly, it tells the reader why it might be worth taking the time and trouble to learn these.

In true "In Easy Steps" style, this book is low on "fluff" and high on content. Each concept is amply illustrated in full-color with screenshots and accompanied by concise and easy to understand instructions. Sidebars provide useful extra information and warn against pitfalls.

Access 2003 In Easy Steps is a great book at a great price!
