  BARRY "DUSTY" NATHAN

Writer PhotoMy career in journalism began as a stringer at the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner before making my way east to write at the Washington Star. I toiled for more than a decade as a columnist for Gannett, the world's largest newspaper chain.

As executive-producer and host of "Dusty Nathan's Winner's Circle," heard on a Philadelphia 50,000-watt radio station, and a CBS affiliate, I covered the worlds of sports and entertainment. I was proud to have several exclusive interviews, most notably, one of Johnny Cash's last appearances and world-famous, champion jockey Eddie Arcaro, who honored me with his final interview before heading north to Heaven. I'm a regular contributor on the world podcast of Cotolo Chronicles.

With regard to my television background, I appeared on ESPN, and made frequent guest appearances at hippodromes throughout the nation who sought me out for my racing expertise and their network telcasts. I co-hosted "At The Races," a television show devoted to the Sport Of Kings, with J.J. Graci - yes, THAT J.J. Graci.

As a regular contributor, I was writing and performing political satire on the top-rated "Dude and Dudess" morning-drive radio show on WMGM-FM.

My words have appeared in Reader's Digest, Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, and New York's Village Voice, as well.

Many of my short stories and poems are published in anthologies.

Recently, some work has been selected and published internationally in university literary journals.

MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
  • I was a recipient of an international Scholarship in 2007. The award was given to only three people at my university for the fall semester. The scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and offers awards for study abroad.
In a recent newspaper wire blurb, I was quoted saying, "I was shocked the other day when I got home and found a large envelope tucked underneath my door. I opened it and it was a Citation from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, House of Representatives, commending the winning of my award and my acceptance to King's College in London. I've never had such a wonderful honor. It's a frame-job for sure."
  • I have given hundreds of seminars at colleges and hippodromes across the U.S., Canada and England; Moorestown, Cherry Hill and Neshaminy Malls; Tropworld, Trump Taj Mahal, Bally's Grand and Sands casinos, to name a few.
  • After playing a bit of minor league ball in the 1970s, I served as Executive Director of HOMERUN: the Committee To Return Pro Baseball To the Nation's Capital, working with Leo Durocher, Bucky Dent, Willie Mays, Andre Dawson, Carl Nance, Susan K. Coti and Frank Higdon in a grass roots effort to bring Major League Baseball back to Washington, D.C.

MY NEWS:

I was recently named as a member of the editorial board of a local newspaper and to the national advisory board of another. I continue to write Op-Eds on local, national and international issues that interest me, using my pseudonym. I am working on an advanced degree in Education.
