  MERLENE FAWDRY

Merlene Fawdry is a writer and poet who now lives in Victoria, Australia. Her professional background includes 25 years working at the coal face of youth and family services in Victoria, working proactively towards de-institutionalisation of young people and family reconciliation. Merlene was employed within both the public and private sector of human services, in direct service and in program and policy reform and development. She has qualifications in Counselling and Small group Work; Youth Work; Alcohol and Other Drug Work; Certificate IV in Professional Writing & Editing and will complete her Diploma of Professional Writing & Editing in June 2006.
Additional to writing, her interests are in social justice and reconciliation for all people who have experienced interference in their lives through legislated power and authority, particularly those who spent their childhood in the institutions of the last century. A shy activist, Merlene is committed to giving a voice to the oppressed through her writing and, with a keen interest in environmental issues, she uses her poetry to speak out against what she sees as government endorsed decimation of her island state.
She released The Little Mongrel - free to a good home in April 2007. an autobiographical account of her childhood spent as an adoptee and inmate of institutions in Victoria and Tasmania.
