My name is Emma Longman, I'm British, and I am currently working as an English language teacher in Jiangsu province, Currently, I am also writing a book based on my experience of living and teaching in China.
In 1999, I became a journalist for a weekly newspaper for nearly two years.
I then started working freelance for a bi-monthly music magazine for about a year and a half.
While working, I came up with my novel, 'Idol', based on a 17-year-old girl growing up around a group of rock-loving 'groupees.'
It focuses on the way some minority groups are singled out for being 'different' - in this case - for liking rock music.
The story deals with a number of different issues many teenagers go through, such as outside influences, drugs and sexuality, and has a somewhat controversial ending.
It has not been published, yet, though that is my aim.
(Exerts shown later in my portfolio)
Since working as a journalist, I have travelled to Australia, Holland, Germany and now China.
I am currently writing a book based on my experiences of living and teaching in China.
I have been writing since I can remember - anything from short stories, poetry and novels.
I haven't had any of my books published yet, but I have included two exerts here from my book 'Idol', among my other work.
I now want to concentrate on writing more books, with the intention of being published (under a pen name).
