 I have been an avid writer for six years. I have done poetry and short stories and have gotten through about half of a novel I started writing on my own. Whenever I find a plot I like, I research it to the fullest extent and then get to writing.
I don't usually create character templates until I know I need them. Most of the time, I come up with my plot and fill things in as I go along. I find that if you chart too much of a story out, you wind up getting bored with it easily. You need to have some wiggle room, that's what I love best about writing -- I can make anything happen, in my little world, I am God.
