Led the team of editorial writers; introduced columns on Consumer Affairs and Development Issues; travelled to USSR and East Europe (to cover the Collapse of Communist regimes), China (Economic reforms), Fiji (Army coup), Sri Lanka (Civil war), USA (Presidential elections) etc.
Assistant Editor, Patriot, New Delhi (1963-1965). Wrote editorials and comments; introduced columns on Science and Rural Affairs; organized intensive coverage of Delhi which helped the paper become the capital's third largest paper in just three months; edited Sunday Magazine; covered Immersion of Nehru's Ashes at Sangam (1964); interviewed Indira Gandhi for Independence Day special (1963).
Sub-Editor, The Statesman, New Delhi (1959-1963). Worked at News Desk; contributed Edit Page articles on Japan and the Philippines based on visits to these countries.
Sub-Editor, The Hindu, Chennai (1953-1958). Worked at the News Desk and edited the Sunday Magazine and weekly International edition.

Special Correspondent, News Editor, Regional Manager, UNI (1966-84). Recruited to the infant agency in 1966 by Kuldip Nayar; made a significant personal contribution to its growth during 18 years of association.
Regional Manager for the South, Chennai (1978-1984). Undertook three visits to the Gulf States and enrolled as UNI subscribers newspapers, a radio station and news agency in UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain who were interested in news from India in view of presence of large number of Indians, especially Keralites; travelled to Poland to cover Solidarity movement (1980); to Sri Lanka to cover Ethnic riots (1981); also covered Police-Naxalite encounters in Dharmapuri (1981).
Chief of Bureau, Srinagar (1973-1978). An interview with Sheikh Abdullah (1973) and investigative stories on deplorable conditions in State hospitals (1978) received wide national attention.
Regional Manager, Mumbai (1972-1973). Toured drought-hit areas of Maharashtra with George Fernandes and did special stories (1973); later deputed other reporters to the districts to ensure sustained coverage of the drought situation.
News Editor, New Delhi (1968-1972). As the agency’s sole news editor, supervised the work of the national and regional desks and bureaus all across the country; organized special news service to meet the needs of Indian publications in North America.
Chief of Bureau, Ahmedabad (1966-68). Toured hill areas of Gujarat and brought to light acute distress of drought-hit tribal population (1966).
Consultant, India Abroad News Service (now Indo-Asian News Service). Spent two months at its headquarters in New York (1988) and provided advice on editorial matters to the agency and its parent weekly India Abroad.
Visiting Senior Editor, IPS Third World news service. Spent two months at its headquarters in Rome and advised the agency on steps to improve its English language service (1980).
Electronic Media experience
Editorial Adviser, Asianet Malayalam television channel (1994-1999). Set up News division, recruited and trained staff and supervised their work for five years; also presented a media watch programme with writer Paul Zacharia as co-anchor.
Adviser, Focus India Features, Bangalore. Supervised the work of the agency, which was accredited Doordarshan, New Delhi (1989-1992), and guided its team of young journalists in the production of news clips and documentaries for DD’s national network.
TV Serial work. Adapted Malayalam novelist Takazhi's epic novel "Kayar" for Hindi serial of the same name, directed by M. S. Sathyu and telecast on Doordarshan’s national network (1989)

MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- Travelled to USSR and all East European countries as Communist regimes were collapsing and wrote a special series for Deccan Herald newspaper
- Wrote the UNI News Agency's story on Armstrong's landing on the Moon, which was picked by most Indian newspapers in preference to international agency copy
- As Editorial Adviser, helped set up News Division of the first private satellite channel in Malayalam language
- Introduced columns on Science and Rural ASffairs and on Consumer Affairs and Development Issues in different newspapers
