The accident of my birth gave me a nationality, the prejudice of my parents gave me a name, but my experience of the world gave me poetry; that is why my poetry looks outwards.
Barbara Sinead Smith, (b. Dublin, 1967)
Barbara Smith lives in the small European state of Ireland. She has six children and is about to complete a BA in Literature.
She has published poetry in Riposte, THE SHOp and Electric Acorn in Ireland.
In the UK: nthposition.com, Sentinel Poetry (online), Agenda and The Coffee House.
And further abroad: Garm Lu (Canada), 13th Warrior, Borderlands:Texas Poetry Review and Portrait (US).
Barbara's essays have appeared in west47online and she reviews poetry for NHI Review Online, UK. Publications include Poetic Stage chapbook, (1998).

MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- 1998, Poetic Stage published.
- 2003, Invited to read at Bright Sparks, series of readings in Drogheda, pairing nationally known poets with local emerging poets. Maighread Maebh, the performance poet, was my pairing.
- 2005, Invited to read at Poetry Ireland's Introductions series, in Dublin.
- 2006, Completing two toughie modules of Degree -leaving just one for the 'honours' part next year!
