I am a 31 year old female, who was born, figuratively, with a pen in her hand. I have always been enamoured with the written word, creating my first poem at the age of 9 and finding immense joy in being able to touch people through my words. Writing is my passion and my release...I write mostly poetry, but dabble in short stories, erotica, humor, and random blogging. Although these are my main areas, I enjoy the challenge and satisfaction that is found when "stepping outside of the box". Give me a topic, and I can write about it!
I remember, back in high school, I wrote a poem I was so proud of. I called it “Oh Daddy”. It detailed a young girl’s struggle with her father’s abuse, and the feelings she continually fought to understand. I decided to submit it to the staff of the school newspaper, in hopes they would print it in their entertainment section. Signed only A.E., not out of fear of the poem’s lyrics, but rather of exposing myself through my poetry. They did print it, however; my pleasure soon turned to disgust as I realized they had taken my work so literally. They encouraged me to seek help for the abuse, and truly believed there was a student roaming the halls with fear in her heart and marks upon her skin. As I sat and pondered this notion, I realized what they had actually given me was a beautiful gift….and the highest compliment….that my writing was so convincing mere words upon a page led them to accusations of abuse. Imagery is a beautiful thing; the ability to take something that you have never experienced and make it appear so real….so lifelike….that those who read your words believe in them…..finding empathy, comfort, or whatever the reader interprets in each line, depending on their own life experiences……Most of my poetry comes from deep within my soul, and does speak powerfully of my own feelings and emotions….so raw and honest it instantly takes me back to the time I wrote it and the heartache or joy I felt at the time…….but other times I love to let my creativity speak…..my soul intensified, I love to let my mind wander freely, with fantasy…… and without prejudice…..in each poem of mine you read, you get a small piece of me……but a bigger piece of yourself….. for the beauty of poetry lies in its’ interpretation.
