I'm Charley. I know it SAYS my name's Charlotte, but there's not really anybody who calls me that.
I wrote a poem called 'Charley' once, when I was afraid that the only things anybody associated with me and my name was that I laughed a lot, smiled a lot, and generally didn't function as a person.
*****************************
Vision is much more than sight
and all my strength can be so slight,
and all my fears don't seem so bad,
I'm Charley- so I don't get sad.
True love is much more than care,
a loneliness when you're not there,
there's meaning in my life today,
I'm Charley- and I'm still okay.
I've seen blood you never knew
existed in a tear or two,
a hidden blade, a subtle flame,
I'm Charley- I don't feel the pain.
I'm a girl you'll never know,
in all our years I'll never show,
the way you really make me feel,
because I'm Charley- I'm not real.
