  WILLIAM MONROE

I was brought up on science. I am therefore keen on discovering the joy of knowledge and the power it brings. I question nearly everything that others take fore granted and that lead me to enter into phelosophy and speculations.
I have two university degrees; one in electronics and the second in computer science but my real qualification comes from my incessant reading and writing. I did it for my own interest only but I have been advised by my close friends that I do have a potential to become a writer.

MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
  • I have written thousands of unpublished articles. I got some good reviews from close friend.

MY NEWS:

I write about subjects that affect us all. unfortunately, some people may find it contraversal and therefore somewhat provocative.

Life. That which we take fore granted yet defies understanding. Who am I? And why I am here and what is it that I want? I pose all these questions but who can give me the answers I need? I look around in vein and see no one that can help me and I realize that I am the only sign of consciousness that I can detect for million of miles. As I dissociate myself form the social and moral constraints of our times, I fall back on the underlying fabric of my own life. Surely, I exist for a good reason. I may be a statistical deviation in the huge sphere of the human potential, yet I am unique enough to hold my own set of views based on my own perceptions. At least, I am aware that I am the last in a very long line of development. I am the state of the art in biological evolution. My roots extend way back in time to the most insignificant humble beginnings. Out of sheer chaos came order and life. The universe provides the necessary potential in the form of the enormous possibilities on a canvas of near infinite space and time. Slowly but surely life stumbled on the intricate hidden properties of matter and distilled feedback mechanisms that can provide a form of stability in the face of chaos. The force of life managed to assert itself against the inevitable decay by the force of randomness. The degree of complexity attained is too overwhelming to be attributed solely to a hub-hazard, trial and error methods of evolution. We are therefore forgiven in thinking that only a conscious external designer can perform such feat. Yet we ourselves are doing exactly the same thing on our own mental level. Look at our own complex social behavior with its reliance on language, art and science. No sign of external designer there, only lots and lots of mistakes and a vigilant feedback enabled us to boast about our advanced civilizations. Mental processes are the software counterparts of hardware processes. There is no magic or any other sign of a ghost to be evoked to facilitate such progress. It is simply inevitable and therefore could not have been prevented. Hardware evolution is a very sluggish process in comparison to our mental developments. The enormous space and time scales facilitated the hardware evolution up to the point at which the software development arrived on the scene and accelerated the whole process. Our enlarged brains can now take over. Instead of relying on natural selection to forge the necessary physical qualities that can enable us to compete and survive, we build mechanical tools that can act as an extension to our limited senses and physical handicaps which dramatically cut out the length of time needed for natural selection to come up with an inflexible solution to one specific advantage. Whereas ideas can be modified or discarded altogether in the face of new circumstances, hardware biological evolution runs into numerous dead ends leading to extinction over very long periods of time.

It now seems to me that I am the only oracle of knowledge that can possibly answer the sort of questions I posed at the outset. All I have to do is hit at random, sifting through my accumulated wealth of experiences, using such tools as my imagination and logic until I stumble on what looks like a fitting answer that appeals to my intelligence and satisfies my curiosity. I will try my best to steer away from dogma. Indeed this is what I have decided to do in this book. I am merely pointing the way to other thinkers to follow suit. There are those who do not see the point in asking such questions in the first place for whom this book will not be an eye opener. The methods I wish to use are similar to those used in scientific research. Whereas, science does not grant these questions the dignity of a proper scientific enquiry, I have decided never the less to venture on my own. I have no idea at this point in time what I can come up with other than a few hunches. At best I could become a pioneer and at worst an idle speculator (i.e. Bullshit).

Life as we know it

I am happy to be alive. I feel at home from the moment I was born. I am highly in tune with my surroundings. It feels silly to question life when I am too busy trying to enjoy it. However, it takes a certain type of individual to ponder over its purpose and ask the sort of questions that I am trying to pose. Life is transient but it has some very distinct phases as we progress from childhood to adulthood and beyond. The physical side of our life is self regulated and follows rigorously the biological clock, whereas the mental side starts with a blank sheet and it is up to those around to provide the necessary writings that will enable us to negotiate our place among others. So crucial is this early training, that it enables the happily adjusted to relate to others, or else create conflicts that interfere with their emotional growth. This is how they get out of phase with their physical growth. Having reached adolescence, some individuals, find themselves stuck at childhood or teenage mentality. They are running late and therefore, they are more desperate than those happily adjusted ones. Lucky are those who were able to do all the things they should do at every phase of their lives. By the time they reach old age, their lives would be fulfilled and complete. They will have a lifetime worth of memories to boast about to their grand children. But life is not always fair. No one has a guarantee to a benevolent, kind and natural way of upbringing. Parents who have had their share of problems tend to pass these onto their children. Being mentally out of phase with the physical side results in emotional problems. There are two avenues open to them; one is to succumb and accept their fate or else revolt. There are two possible paths; one is to strike out at random. Give society back a taste of what they could not stomach when they were young. Of course, the consequences are not always favorable to them as they end up becoming a menace to others and receive further punishments to fuel their rebellion. The second path is for those who realize the exact nature of their problem. They have missed the boat and the only way to catch up is to have a second chance in re-living the phases they missed. For them fantasy opens up a world of make belief.

Life as we don’t know it

I tried to describe life as we know it which is essentially a self centered way of existence, as though we came first and then somehow we got a lease of life at our disposal to spend as we like before we are forced to return it back. We are forgiven for giving ourselves the kind of importance that we deserve. Just as in astronomical matters, people instinctively believed that the earth is` the center of the universe and everything we see in the skies revolves around us, until science proved how insignificant is our planet in the solar system, let alone the galaxy and the universe at large. We are nothing more than a spec of dust in a universe teaming with signs of order and hence life. It would be much easier if life came first and we came second. We are only vehicles for the propagation of something that has a greater degree of importance and purpose than us. Yet the force of life can only experience its own presence through us. We are its eyes and ears when it wants to look back at its past or peer into the future. But the most important aspect for it is our consciousness. No matter where I look, I could never find anything remotely endowed with such level of consciousness as our own. We are the highest level of consciousness that we could ever find at least in this vicinity of the universe. There is no tangible shred of evidence of an omnipotent creator in sight or out of sight. Everything we see around us fits the general pattern of a universe that is evolving in time from a remote point in the past to an unknown remote catastrophe in the far future. If god has created us at any point in time in the past then he certainly appears to have washed his hands off getting entangled in our daily affairs. It is so much easier to bring him back home. He is right here under our own noses. We are his status quo. That does not make him a lesser god than we think of him. On the contrary he (we) are striving towards higher level of consciousness. It is as though he is a god in the making, moving forward in time to an un-imaginable state of universal consciousness and yet we have a say today in his ultimate fate.

What we think of as our own life turned out to be a small link in someone else’s life and yet it does not diminish our existence, on the contrary, we should be more proud to be the vehicle for its propagation into the future and for that all we do is to enjoy our own lives and realize our own potential. It gives me greater pleasure and satisfaction to see myself as part of something great than to be a wretched sinner to a father figure that arbitrally sets up his own rules. We invent them and in most cases they are somewhat useful as typical disciplinary measures for people to follow if they have to live together in a social setting.

What makes god great is love. That mysterious quality we fanaticize about is nothing more than a form of positive feedback between two or more entities helping each other in an intertwining fashion, racing up to the top of a pyramid, as it reaches a saturation level. To continue to go higher still, we need to inject new qualities, contrasting with our existing ones. This is what is great about love; it combines the so-called good and bad to create something more beautiful and complete. Instead of being one sided, it turns into a multi sided object, rather like a precious diamond. Needless to say, hate is the opposite process by which disintegration sets in and in some cases, may be desirable to enable the system to rid itself of dead ends and restart again towards a higher summit.

We can see god more clearly when a large group of people flock together and unite in harmony. That is the essence of what happens in religious ceremonies at churches or any other places of worship. That degree of humbleness intensifies the image of god, especially when coupled with chanting that it becomes mystical and majestic. God is here on earth. We only have to evoke him by such mystical experiences in order to elevate him among us. We worship him and assign to him the highest qualities we are capable of formulating in our own minds. Therefore, god is in the congregation and the masses. I am surprised that some people still see him as a detached figure, when he is clearly nothing more than a form of mass hallucination. We enact him out of our own being. He really lives in us but we are unable to identify with him other than by a process of external projection that makes him alien and therefore capable of inflicting his wrath upon us at times and suffer untold self-punishments when we inevitably sin. It is sad when as a young child I perceived him as an uncompromising authority figure and spent the best years of my life wrestling with my natural instincts as though they were weaknesses of the flesh and ended up as a nervous wreck. I suffered in silence until one day I decided enough is enough. God is an imposter and I set out to discredit him. I eventually reaped the benefit of self-liberation from the false mental glorification that consumed my life. It was not revenge I wanted but rather indifference to other people’s beliefs. I have no desire to destroy other people’s cherished beliefs. Let them wallow in their own ignorance as far as I am concerned. I only want to be able to grow up and actualize my own potential. I want to reach a level of emotional maturity that can enable me to sympathize rather than despise others. I have therefore, found my own god and he is all the love and compassion that I have always dreamt of when I was young. Thank god, I found him at last in the least likely place I ever imagined. God is not a person like you or me, he is a force that we carry inside us and pass on to future generations. I am groining to stick my neck out and declare that he is not a supreme being but rather a universal force that asserts itself against a background of chaos and in the process aspires to an absolute form of universal consciousness. There is nothing genetic or hard-wired about him but only mental, involving the highest level of intellectual aspiration. I do not want to feel big headed by denigrating other people’s beliefs and convictions. We are all at different levels of conceptualization. I paid the price for my over active mental precocity only to discover that what started as a growth impediment resulting in my early frustrations in life, has now become a better tool for self healing and an instrument of love that awakens the real god that lurks within. God is in our hearts, for want of a poetic image.

I don’t assume that others who have had a different course of upbringing would necessarily identify with my own representations of god. Those, for whom my thoughts ring a bell, are able to identify with my own feelings. Those, on the other hand, that feel antagonistic or indignant will only be jolted but remain indifferent to my views. They may be lucky to have found their own god through their well-balanced upbringing, with all the love that protected them from the vagaries of mental indoctrinations that I suffered. Now, at the eleventh hour, I use the same tool with which I destroyed my integrity to bring back the love I so much needed and with it the real god that can heal my troubled soul, in a way that the social dogma could only thwart my emotional growth. I have not progressed far; I still have to drink from the same cup for some time before I can claim I have had a miracle bestowed on me by god. I am prepared to go where no man has ever gone before in search of the truth about life, love and god.

That is my religion, no rules, no sins and no rewards, Just life, pure and simple. No pretence, no glamour and no self sacrifice. I accept what I am and I worship god with love. That is the underlying language between us. With such understanding, I can afford to be kind, generous and forgiving to others, as the god within makes its presence felt. I am never alone anymore, I serve god’s purpose and in doing so I fulfill my own. I look after the only valuable asset I have; namely my body and in return it frees my mind and enables me to explore the beauty that life brings to everything around me. I have so many brothers and sisters in all walks of life. I belong here and therefore, feel obliged and honored to serve my purpose in life.

The most striking feature of life is order. Where there is life there is something that stands out of its background. We humans are also able to create order around us; through our minds but that is only a manifestation or rather a reflection of the order in our minds. Music is order on a canvas of time, whereas, other forms of art are sculptured in space. Science is a search for the hidden order in everything in nature including the universe at large. Science serves two purposes; the obvious one is the desire for control, hence the technology that brings comfort and safety into our lives but the less obvious, is pure knowledge that will enable us to rebuild the mind of god. Universal consciousness has to be the highest goal of the life force which we carry its torch at this point in time and will hand it over to future generations.

Scientific matters

The physical world we live in is only an illusion for our eyes and senses. Scientists are too busy trying to crack its secrets and for that rely on a kind of language that creates a buffer of mathematical notations that obscure any pictorial or visual understanding of the subject matter. I am trying to redress the balance in favor of giving us a glimpse of the mysteries of the natural physical world. The truth of the matter is that our world is more strange than the strangest things that science fiction writers could ever come up with, yet it is governed by a few simple rules from which nothing can escape, but in spite of the rigorous nature of the laws that govern it, predictability is completely lost on the very small scale and is lost again at the large scales due to the sheer complexity and instability that arises from chaotic effects. The best way to deal with the small world is to resort to statistical average representations.

Take one specific phenomena of the precarious nature of the sub-atomic particles that makes them enjoy a kind of dual existence. On the one hand they behave like ordinary particles, as we are able to project them onto any given target and observe their impact. If we introduce two holes into a diaphragm, we are left with the strange conclusion that one single particle has managed to use both holes at the same time, as though the particle has changed its character and is behaving like a wave. Is it a particle or a wave? And the correct answer is either on neither. But what kind of wave is this? It turns out that it is a wave of probability of finding the particle at some expected location. It means that if the probability is zero, then the particle is virtually non-existent. So where on earth has it gone? And what is happening to it when it has half an existence?

We take our 3 dimensional spaces as fore granted but mathematically any number of dimensions is possible. The problem is that we have no way of visualizing what a 4 dimensional object can look like but we can gain some insight into the effect it could have on our 3 dimensional world as it interacts with it. To help simplify the problem, take a two-dimensional world in which everything exists only on a flat plane surface. The inhabitants of such world can see what lies in front of them or behind them as well as what lies on their left or their right. But they could never see what lies above them or beneath them. Now if we introduce a 3 dimensional object (e.g. a ball) and traverse the flat land’s plane. The only thing they could see is the interaction in the shape of a circle that grows in size until it reaches the equator and then starts to decrease in size down to a point before it disappears completely.

Now take this analogy one dimension up. A 4 dimensional ball traversing our normal 3 dimensional space. We should be able to observe a 3 dimensional ball grow in size first and then shrink before it disappears completely from our world. There is no other way for us to conceive of what a 4 dimensional object would look like other than by observing its cross sections as it passes through our world. No one has ever seen anything like that, therefore, our universe is truly a 3 dimensional one only. The micro world, however, is a different story. Sub-atomic particles when they roam freely are able to wander into some tiny microscopic extra dimensions. To us they disappear in thin air or else they appear out of the blue. The fact that these particles can not be observed as their dimensions are too small in relation to the wave length of any source of light we shine onto them. Therefore we don’t even know for sure if such particles have 3 dimensions or any other number of dimensions. Placing a panel with two slits in the path of an electron, has no effect on any other dimensions. The electron can therefore, appear to tunnel through, when in fact all it did is wander outside our world and come back again at a different point from where it disappeared earlier. This can only happen on the sub-atomic scale only, the extra dimensions are curled up. When atoms get clustered together, their binding forces operate only in our 3 dimensional world, therefore preventing any large scale objects from being able to wander in and out of our world.
