  MARIE-JACQUELINE MAJOR

I am a baby boomer born in Montreal, Canada. I had all kinds of jobs: I worked as a secretary, a jazz-ballet instructor, a destination rep in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and a floral designer just to mention a few.
I started writing at age six and have been doing so since then, but until now, I never thought about publishing anything. I remained stuck on the idea that "everything had already been said" for many, many years... If the US wouldn't have invaded Iraq, maybe I would never had written anything to publish.
I was in university, studying for a BA in psychology and criminology when the US started talking about invading Iraq. At first, I started to follow the news out of curiosity. I had never been politically inclined before. As the months preceding the invasion went by, the more I read about it, the more it became clear to me that no matter how much Iraq would comply with every single demand put on them to avoid this war, it would be invaded anyway. I could not remain neutral anymore. I became an online activist, and along with thousands of others, I tried to stop the incoming invasion from happening. We could not stop the slaughter ...
The present US administration was determined to invade Iraq for its oil and to "protect" Israel.
There were no WMDs in Iraq. The country had been impoverished by 12 years of ongoing sanctions and could not possibly have developed WMDs. Bush lied to the world and to his own people, and because of these lies, thousands of innocents have died and are still dying.
I write a lot about Iraq and about palestine lately because I believe that we need to raise public awareness on these issues.

I live on the Sunshine Coast with my two children Francis, now 20, and Marie, 17. Our family includes an Alaskan Malamute- Kita, and three cats - Mina, Dude, & Cossack.

Liberation

March 20th, 2003,
A tragic date in history
On that day, the Americans
Purposely misled by the Republicans
Slaughtered shamelessly the people of Iraq
Defenseless against the powerful attack.
I watched the bombing of Baghdad, horrified,
Holding my breath and petrified
The sky on that night
Was lit by deadly tiny grapes of light
Falling down to the ground
And exploding in a chilling sound
How could this be?
Up there, floating high
The souls of liberated Iraqis
Were soaring to the sky.
Their death had no purpose and no reason,
Where are the weapons of mass destruction
To justify this immoral invasion?
Only God may forgive such abomination!
We, the people, will never forget...
