JANET KIRA LESSIN is the President and Director of the School of Tantra, The President of the World Tantra Association and Chief Focalizer of the World Polyamory Association. She and her husband, Dr. Sasha Lessin, own the School of Tantra, an educational, healing & spiritual growth center in Maui, HI. She followed a spiritual path similar to Sasha's (see Sasha Bio) yet different. Janet, logical, psychic and intuitive, attracted many who were drawn to talk to her about their innermost thoughts and feelings, even as a very young child.
At 13, saddened with the obvious hypocrisy of her religion, Janet broke free from tradition and embarked on a spiritual path, reading hundreds of books on every subject, including psychology. She further educated herself through seminars, classes, private counseling and spiritual growth work, healing herself from childhood abuse issues and developing skills to facilitate others. She has been a natural counselor throughout life in all of her jobs, be it a legal secretary or computer programmer. Incorporating psychology and utilizing her natural sensitivity, she has been a healing force for many; helping them get through the difficulties of the day and return home to face relationships, friends and family.
Since she was so knowledgeable in the field, her friends urged her to begin a class. Janet started The Penn State UFO Discussion Group in 1991. In the safety of her group, many students revealed their experiences, from sightings to abductions to physical markings. Lacking the psychological skills to effectively help her severely traumatized students, Janet vowed to further her studies to develop them.
In 1991, Janet had series of of mysterious dreams recalling previous incarnations and strange, ritualistic, lovemaking practices. That same year, she met a man from Hawaii who could astraly project to her at will. Working with this master, she developed her ability to consciously connect and began a series of astral experiences where they became etheric lovers, which awakened her kundalini energy. The energies were startling, puzzling and disturbing, for they rocked reality as she knew it. Yet she knew, this had to be real.
This experience inspired her to move to Hawaii to continue her studies in person. Following her inner guidance, she was led to books and videos where she discovered that her remembrances of previous lives and astral experiences were teaching her about tantra. She had never even heard that word before.
Arriving in Honolulu in 1993, Janet discovered a polyamory group which was just forming called Pali Paths. She soon became a co-facilitator in this alternative relationship support group. Initially attendance was small, but with perseverance, the word got out and soon their numbers grew to several hundred.
Pursuing her great love of technology, Janet became an internet relations counselor on AOL (janetkiralessin@aol.com) in 1995. The spontaneity of IM's (Instant Messages) and the anonymity of the internet led to thousands of "true confessions" from those struggling with unhappy relationships, unfulfilled desires, sexual frustration and dysfunction and infidelity. She did the best she could to help. She knew there had to be more she could do.
In the summer of 1997, Janet met Dr. Sasha Lessin, one of the foremost tantra educators and psychological counselors in the modern world. They fell in love at first sight and were wed a few months later. Immediately they began teaching together; combining their diverse healing and spiritual paths.
Together (clients and participants in their weekend and week-long tantra monthly seminars were their guinea pigs) the Lessins further developed the synergy of tantra and relations counseling to its present form, All-Chakra Tantra, the guiding framework for the School of Tantra (www.schooloftantra.com).
Based in Maui, Hawaii, Janet and Sasha counsel people from all orientations--monogamous, polyamorous, bisexual, gay, straight, singles, couples, moresomes, swingers and groups--in Hawaii and all over the globe.
They utilize healing methodologies including: Holotropic Breathwork, Tantra, Voice Dialogue, Gestalt, Hypnotherapy, Pastlife Regression Therapy and Imago Work.
Janet frequently contributes to Loving More magazine and has appeared on John Walsh, Leeza, Talk or Walk, Time Zone International, Inside Edition, Extra, Penn & Teller's Bullshit and in Time, Hustler & Penthouse, Cosmopolitan discussing polyamory. She lives in a poly/tantric community, an experiment in conscious loving creating new paradigms for family and relationships.
