Someone asked my why I write poetry, and how I am able to convey the feelings that I want others to feel through my poetry so I thought I'd write this little essay.
My people have always used songs and poetry in thier ritual as well as their daily lives. A study of Jungian Psychology gives some explanation as to the reasoning behind it.

A poem is a magical creation. The connection between poetry and magic dates back to ancient times.
Ritual(istic) poetry doesn't have to rhyme, but many find that rhyming verse is preferable when reading out loud, (it is also easier to memorize.)
The writing and reciting of poetry can have a healing effect on the spiritual self as well as the physical body. It can help calm and center, attract energy and create the setting for ritual work.
Read your poem, while reading or reciting it visualise your intention.
Poetry is intrinsic to the structure of magic, it stirs up emotions and creates a fire in the soul, it speaks power in it's descriptions and it's focus.
